How PolyMem Foam Dressings Work
Continuous Wound Cleansing
PolyMem Max contains a mild, nonionic, non-toxic, tissue-friendly cleansing agent that helps maintain a clean wound bed by loosening necrotic tissue, slough, and debris.
Wound Wicking Action
The hydrophilic polyurethane membrane matrix, combined with a starch copolymer, draws fluid and debris from the wound. It then swells into a non-adherent gel, reducing maceration risk and conforming to the wound shape.
Comfort and Healing Support
Glycerol (glycerin):
- Prevents adherence to the wound bed
- Allows painless dressing removal
- Helps control odor
- Softens non-viable tissue
Barrier and Breathability
- Features a semi-permeable film backing
- Allows oxygen and moisture vapor exchange
- Provides a barrier against liquids
How to Use PolyMem Max Non-Adhesive Dressings
Initial Application
- Prepare the wound according to clinical protocol or physician direction.
- Select a dressing that extends approximately 0.6–5 cm (¼”–2″) beyond the wound edges.
- Apply with the film side (printed side) facing outward.
- Increased wound fluid during the first few days is normal and indicates effectiveness.
- Tip: Mark the wound size on the dressing to monitor when a change is needed.
- Keep the dressing dry during bathing; replace if it becomes wet.
- Avoid using additional topical treatments unless directed.
Dressing Change
- Change the dressing before fluid reaches the wound margin
- Replace immediately if fluid reaches the edge of the membrane pad
- For lightly exuding wounds, dressings may remain in place for up to 7 days
- More frequent changes may be needed for:
- Infection
- Diabetes
- Compromised immune systems
Removal
- Gently peel back the adhesive film toward the center
- Remove the dressing carefully (designed for pain-free removal)
- Do not disturb the wound bed
Cleaning
- Do not cleanse or irrigate the wound unless infected or contaminated
- The dressing contains a built-in cleanser and leaves no residue
- Clean only the surrounding skin if necessary
Reapplication
- Apply a new dressing following the same procedure
